Full Portrait of Captain Henry de Crauzat of Company D of the Ninety-Eighth Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. ID'd on the back. He resigned on September 9, 1862. the Ninety-Eighth Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry organized in Philadelphia from August to November of 1861, moved to the defenses of Washington shortly after being formed, then was moved into Pecks Brigade of Couch's Division in the Army of the Potomac. Served in this capacity through October of 1862. Ultimately the unit would be assigned to the Sixth Corps, but this was after de Crauzat left the Army. While he was still in this unit, it participated in the following actions: The march to First Manassas, the Siege of Yorktown, the Battle of Williamsburg on May 5, 1862, The Battle of Fair Oaks/ Seven Pines! May 31/ June 1, 1862, The Battle of the Seven Days, Malvern Hill.

Photo of Captain Semmes of the CSS Alabama who fought the Kearsarge off of the French coast near Cherbourg. Under photo is written in pencil: "Capt. Semmes". 2004.001.007 is the same exact image, but darker. Publisher's mark on back side: E. & H. T. Anthony 501 Broadway New York". In pencil on back is written: Capt. Semmes Commanded the "Alabama" Rare Confederate Later commanded the James River Squadron".

Edward E. Potter

The 11 1/8" x 7 5/8" sheet of paper contains a lithographed drawing of Commodore Edward Eells Potter that is 4 3/4" x 4 3/4". The black and white print shows the officer from head to chest in uniform with greyish haze around head and shoulders. He is wearing a cocked "fore and aft" hat with head turned to left side. Three circular buttons on left side and four on right side are visible as are epaulettes. Markings: "AE Francis & Co." Directly below center of drawing and above signature of "Edward E. Potter" in cursive.
