Book. Confederate Imprint by Edward Alfred Pollard, entitled: "The First Year of the War". Pollard also wrote: "Black Diamonds" etc. Corrected and improved version. Rare with engraved portraits of Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson as well as being in the original green cloth binding, only eight examples of this rare edition are known to exist all of which are in institutions. This was the first popular history of the Civil War from a Confederate perspective. Edward Polard was a staunch session but was strongly opposed to President Jefferson Davis whom he felt was responsible for mismanaging the Confederacy. The books presents the events of the Civil War from the viewpoint of the author, a pro-slavery secessionist. Richmond: West & Johnson, 145 Main Street, 1862.
