2003.002.004 Carte-de-visite, George A. Custer Ca. 1865. Oval image set inside mat with design in gold trim of a laurel frame hung with tassels. Image measures: 2" high by 1 3/4" wide. Photo is a portrait of Custer, who is seated and looking to his right. He is not wearing a hat. Image shows to the middle of Custer's chest. On the back is a blue stamp with Washington's portrait. Stamp marked: "Inter. Rev. 2 Cents Back Check". Also on back in pencil reads: "From Personal Album of G. A. Custer Len Pra 9/91". General George A. Custer - his famous photograph taken in 1865 as a Major General, actually from the Custer family photograph album. Being his last photograph taken from the Civil War, he is sporting his shoulder length curly blond hair which caused the Indians refer to him as Yellow Hair. Absolutely superb photograph from the Custer family album.
