2004.001.0001 Photograph, Civil War Firing Squad Half Plate of an albumen print of a firing squad. Man in the white shirt is Mr. Johnson is a Confederate spy. Chaplain to the right with rod marking spot for burial. Johnson is wiping brow with handkerchief and he is kneeling on coffin. Has hat in left hand at side and to the left is the firing squad. Beige matted frame. None wear hat as Chaplain reads last rights. At left cavalry man kneeling on the left is writing down last words of the condemned. Photo is credited to Amundson and White Corinth Mississippi. Another variant image of this scene appears in Images of War Volume Four Page 131, a second photo taken after the execution is Images of War Volume Four Page 131. The photos of this event are at the Chicago Historical Society and the Library of Congress Holdings.
