The Memphis Daily Appeal printed at Montgomery Alabama, October 23, 1864. Articles includes a "Report on Yankee Account of Forrest's Exploits at East Point, which concludes that the infamous cavalry officer inflicted more damage than previously believed." Also, a funeral oration for the late Bishop General Leonidas Polk who died from wounds received by a Federal artillery shell. This paper was printed in Montgomery Alabama, as at the time of its printing Western Tennessee was in Union Hands.

The Record of the News History an d Literature, Richmond. Virginia. October 15, 1863. Features an excellent account of the battle of Chickamauga. The battle had taken place three weeks earlier, and there is an excellent account of the loss of General Hood's leg. In another report, the paper goes on to examine the Federal debt which is listed as upwards of one billion dollars. Posted inside the paper is a list of the Naval officers who , although born in the South remained in the Federal navy. Also, a moving letters from General Leonidas Polk explains his resignation following criticism following his actions at the Battle of Chickamauga.
