This print from Laura Holloway's Ladies of the White House (1881) shows Rachel Jackson, wife of Andrew Jackson. Rachel died in 1828, shortly before the electoral ball celebrating Jackson's victory over John Quincy Adams. In the campaign for the presidency, supporters of Adams had accused Rachel of being a bigamist. Jackson reportedly blamed her death on these accusations.
