The author acknowledges in the preface that his goal "has been simply to gather up some fragments of this great history that otherwise might be lost." Published in 1864, this book is similar to a few others but has even less structure. While some of the stories are attributed to the letters of specific individuals, for the most part there is no attempt to verify the historical accuracy of the events described. Therefore the incidents in question should be judged solely as literary works and not interpreted as having any historical value. I doubt this book would have much appeal for our bookstore.
