Kit, Mess

Canvas covered metal lid to mess kit. has leather trim. Circular, 32 3/4" Circum. Leather is missing in several places -numerous stains especially on top. Leather rectangular handle stitched onto one side 1 3/8" x 2 3/16". Handle missing on other side. Blue rectangle painted on top- 6 3/16" x 1 7/16" with initials WPW stenciled inside. White corrosion of metal- forming crust where top and sides meet. Inspected, 2/1/01. Leather is supple. There is a 1 3/4" portion of leather separating from canvas in one place where the missing handle would be. 3/4" portion of leather is hanging loose in one place above and in front of the handle. W.M. Burr Jr." in red paint above blue rectangle. "WPW" stenciled inside. "Burr, Cazenovia, NY" blow red paint. 3/2/10 inventory: Located in back

Kit, Mess

Canvas covered metal container used to house mess kit. Has lid (A). 31" Circum. Leather trim on top & bottom. One strip on side. Leather worn & discolored. Bottom trim is pulling away from sides. Canvas is soiled with numerous stains. Appears to have had strap (possibly leather sewn to side) -now missing. Corrosion on surface of metal. Canvas is buckling in several places. Inspected, 2/8/01. Has active mold on the bottom, displayed side up, probably due to moisture being trapped underneath a mylar barrier. Mold was vacuumed to deter new growth. Diagram of mold growth was drawn. Small metal shavings were also coming from the tin lining. The lining was waxed. Initials W.P.W. stitched in bottom - one blue line 6 1/8" L above initials. 3/2/10 inventory: left
