Content Description: 

Set, Surgical. A wooden case, 5" x 16" x 2 1/2" high, containing a partial set of surgical instruments. Used by Dr. F. N. Blount, U. S. Marine Hospital Surgeon, in the late 1870s in Pensacola, FL. Wooden case has tan cloth lining. The group of 21 tools includes a number of instruments from other sets that were not part of the original cased amputation set. These include five obstetrical tools, plus miscellaneous instruments. Most instruments are unmarked, as to maker. One plated probe, or obstetrical hook? (marked 22/12 Tiemann) dates later than the other tools.
