Front pocket contains note reading "My dear Love. Mr. Milligan has requested the favor of my company to dine with him today, with some of the Officers of the Treasury, I am therefore deprived of your good company, which on this occasion I hope your goodness will excuse. From Maria's Josephus." Red leather binding with flap and tap; flap is broken and spine detaching from pages.
