Located just east of Jericho, on the Jordan River was a popular pilgrimmage site. It is believed to be the location where John the Baptist performed many baptisms, including that of Jesus. William Lynch and his party watched the arrival and departure of a part of 8,000 pilgrims from their camp near the Jordan River.
