Content Description: 

CDV of an OX with well dressed man at the left of photo. The ox is white and enormous with a bridle which reads: "Gen. Grant". On back is printed a long description which reads: "THE CELEBRATED Mammoth White Ox, 'Gen. Grant.' Weighing upwards of 4,00 lbs. This famous animal was exhibited during the war for the benefit of the Sanitary commission at their fairs in New York, Boston, Philadelphia, and Chicago, and there was realized from his exhibition about 12000 dollars which was paid into the Treasury of that noble Association. He was once presented to President Lincoln, and by him presented to the ladies of the sanitary fair." in Boston, realizing to that institution over 4000 dollars, which standing offered as President Lincoln's subscription to that noble work. This animal is now on exhibition for the last time, and is to be presented to General U. S. Grant on the occasion of the inauguration as President of the United States, in Washington, March 4, 1869."
