Title:

Cartridge Pouch
Date:
circa 1775-1800

Content Description:

Pouch with flap and clear evidence for a 2 3/4" wide white leather shoulder belt (now missing). Pouch has a block of pine drilled with 17 holes to accomodate paper cartridges fitted into it and secured with small hand-wrought nails through the leather. Remains of a fastening strap are crudely stitched to the underside of the cover flap. The insert does not properly fit the pouch suggesting that it is not original but rather a later adaptation of an 18th-century cartridge pouch.
