Coin Found in Collection, 1779,Brass alloy. Coin Medal issued by Congress after the Battle of Paulus Hook (August 19, 1779) to Major Henry Lee, father of Robert E. Lee; front depicts bust of Major Lee with Latin stating, "The American Congress to Henry Lee, Colonel of Cavalry"; reverse shows ivy leaves encircling Latin which reads, "Notwithstanding rivers and entrenchments, he with a small band conquired the foe by warlike skill and prowess and firmly bound by his humanity those who had been conquered by his arms. In memory of the conflict at Paulus Hook, nineteenth of August, 1779" Color: bronze
