Content Description: 

Flag, Confederate. Canton Section of Confederate Second National Flag; canton apparently used as a battle flag. St. Andrews's Cross pattern. Square format. Red field (wool bunting). Blue cross (wool bunting) White edging of cross. Thirteen white five-pointed stars (cotton muslin). Blue heading (wool bunting) forms sleeve casing, braided rope looped at one end, within casing. Heading extends approx. 7" past lower edge of canton and is tied with a piece of red fabric. Canton bears slight traces of white material along outer and lower edge seams where the white field of the flag was once attached (the white field was apparently cut away during the late part of the Civil War.)
