Content Description:
Alkaline glazed stoneware. 2 handles, 4 gallon size. Ovoid alkaline glazed stoneware storage jar with outward flared lip. Jar is glazed a dark green/brown color and is speckled in appearance, due to how it was manufactured. The object is basically cyndrical in shape and tapers outward as it runs from bottom to top, with the widest point just above the middle. Jar then tapers inward until it reaches the top edge and then extends outward and up, creating an hourglass shape. The interior, as well as the lower exterior, have pronounced ridges from where the crock was turned on the wheel. Bottom is flat and unglazed. There are two strap ear handles near the top edge on opposing sides of the crock, one of which has the number 4drawn into the clay, evidently to signify the size of the container.
