Epaulet in box marked "Guard Marder". Lt j.g. insignia, Jonathan E. Shelby. Black wool epaulet in a box . This is a Lt j.g. insignia epaulet, 5.5 inches long and 3.25 inches wide. The epaulet is rectangular for 4.5 inches, then it begins to taper into a triangle. The back of the epaulet is lined in black twill. There is a black leather strap centered on the back . At the tip of the strap there is a brass snap, approximately 0.75 inches in diameter. 1945. There are gold ribbons and insignia on the front of the epaulet. The first ribbon is 0.25 inches from the top and 0.5 inches wide. The second ribbon is 1 and 1/8 inches from the top and 0.25 inches wide. There is a five point embroidered gold star about half way from the top with gold braid on it. Near the bottom there is a brass button 0.5 inces in diameter that has an eagle perched on an anchor on it. The box is 5.75 inches long, 2.5 inches wide, and 1.25 inches deep. The box is red and beige. Box is marked "Gaurd Marder". There is a depiction of an eagle in the center of the box with an "H" on each wing. Underneath the eagle there is text that reads "Trade Mark Reg". On the side of the box there is the same symbol of the eagle and markings (smaller) on the top left corner. On the top right corner there are markings "1 pair Shoulder Marks"
