Content Description:
This .69 caliber piece, made in Charleville, France, was one of more than 100,000 sent to arm American troops during the war. It is stamped "U-STATE[S]" on the stock above the trigger guard to indicate United States ownership.
Given the model of musket and placement of the stamp, this musket was likely one of those sent to Portsmouth, New Hampshire, in the spring of 1777, and carried by a Massachusetts Continental solder here.
From the collection of the Morristown National Historical Park.
