Content Description: 

Colonial period wrought-iron slave ship shackles, c. 1780, 15" overall with 3.75" dual leg rings. This 18th century leg shackle features two leg rings with a single bar and a large flange end and one large link attached to the opposite end. This style is typical of the early colonial period and is very similar to the leg shackles found on the famous slavery ship Henrietta Marie that sank off the Florida coast in 1700 after delivering a shipment of slaves. Normal rust patina, but otherwise in very fine condition.
