Silver sugar bowl (a) and lid (b) by William G. Forbes, New York, in oval form, the bowl's body having chased zig-zag border above convex band with chased intertwined swags around bright-cut cornucopia reserve enclosing monogram "BMH," reverse with date "1780." Stands on spreading rim foot and has ring handles. Lid is pagoda-shaped with urn finial. Underside bears maker's mark of "Forbes" in rectangle, with an eagle's head and the letter "C."
