Table, Sewing. Or Folding Table. Maple. Made by Simplicity, patent date 1884. Apparently belonged to "Grandmother" of Drew Family. Legs fold flat against bottom of table top after folding a "y" brace down. Pivoting arm swings around to hold the legs in place while carrying the table. Legs are turned. Top has incised ruler from 1" to 36" and is made of nine narrow tongue & groove joined boards. Stenciled manufacturer's marking underneath tabletop. Clear finish now darkened with age. Patent abstract indicates the hinge configuration and its locking member were the patented feature. See Acc. Ref. for ca. 1900 INVENTORY - EX. GOV. DREW'S HOME, p. 2, "4.
