Mary Alice Holland's "Gone with the Wind" Evening Gown

Content Description: 

Gown, Evening, Woman's. Worn by Mary Alice Holland, Governor Spessard Holland's wife, during early 1940s. "Gown with the Wind" style ball gown made of a fine batiste or lawn in an orange and yellow floral print on an ecru background. Sweetheart neckline is framed with 3 ruffles that form cap sleeves on the sleeveless bodice. Neckline and low back are trimmed with lavender velvet ribbon with a bow in front. Bodice attached to waist with a princess waistline. 14" metal side zipper on right side. Very full skirt with two lavender velvet bows on lower left and center front. Pink rayon slip attached at waist and bodice is also lined with pink rayon. A hoop is sewn into the slip. Two self-fabric straps on shoulders, possibly used to store dress on hanger.
