French Croix de Guerre with bronze palm leaf - WWI. The medal and palm attached to the ribbon appear to be bronze. The ribbon has a rectangular shape, which tapers. A metal jump ring attaches the medal to the ribbon. Front - The ribbon is green with seven evenly spaced red vertical stripes. There is a metal palm measuring 3.5 cm long and 1 cm wide attached to the ribbon extending from the middle of the right side of the ribbon to the lower left. The medal is attached by a jump ring which appears to be made out of bronze. The medal is a cross with a small round emblem measuring 1.5 cm in diameter with REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE in raised lettering on the upper edge, a woman's bust in the center, and laurel branches on the lower edge. Behind the emblem there are two crossed swords. Back - The ribbon is folded over two pins extending downward through a fold in the ribbon. The pins measure 3.9 cm on the left and 3.6 cm on the right. There is a round emblem 1.5 cm in diameter in the center of the medal, which is in the shape of a cross. 1914 is written in raised lettering above 1918. Two swords cross behind the emblem.
