Title:

Military Saber, Officer's
Date:
ca. 1805-1810s

Content Description:

Saber, U.S. An early 19th century saber having an eagle head pommel, and a wide curved blade with wide shallow fuller. The metal of the hand-guard and pommel appear to be dark patinated brass; straight crossguard and stirrup shaped handguard. The version of the eagle head, with large beak and mouth, is considered an early example and is known as a "Ketland" type. A type used during the War of 1812 and Seminole Wars-era. NOTE: Subject card says that a replacement handle/grip was added. (The replacement handle is incorrect. A white fluted bone grip would be correct.)
