Published two days after the Battle of Monocacy, this New York Times paper alerts its readers of the battle and the continued raid on Maryland. Confederate General Jubal Early continued to attack Washington D.C., on July 11 and 12, where Union reinforcements were rushed up to Washington from the Petersburg campaign to defend the capital city.
