Official Seal of the Jamestown Exposition

Content Description:

The Jamestown Exposition was one of the many world's fairs and expositions that were popular in the United States early part of the 20th century. It was held from April 26 to December 1, 1907, at Sewell's Point on Hampton Roads, near Norfolk, Virginia, and commemorated the 300th anniversary of the founding of Jamestown in the Virginia Colony, the first permanent English settlement in the present United States.

A miniature city was created for the Exposition, with boulevards, lights and telephone service and beautiful permanent buildings representing governments, manufacturers, organizations and institutions from all over the world. Although not a financial success, the Exposition attracted many enthusiastic visitors, and some of its original buildings are still in use today.
