Content Description: 

Quilt. OPERATION DESERT SHIELD/STORM, approx. 12' x 40', polychrome. Approximately 250 blocks, each individually designed and embellished, 12" square set together by horizontal rows of cloth sashing of alternating red and white rows (no vertical sashing between blocks). Some blocks are machine-sewn, some are pieced by hand. Embellishments include: cross stitch, outline stitch, fabric paint, patches (unit insignia, U.S. flag, etc.) machine-embroidery, appliqué (hand and machine), various trims and braids. Blue cloth borders with title of quilt and other information about the commemorated event at top of quilt and U.S. flag (commercially made) under title with place names in fabric paint on blue cloth at either side of flag. Blue cloth backing. Quilt does not appear to have any batting between quilt top and backing.
