It is believed that these cufflinks belonged to General John Burgoyne and were acquired by the donor's ancestor, a soldier in Burgoyne's army, at Saratoga in 1777.
The cufflinks are of English or American origin, circa 1760 to 1770, and made of quartz crystal over twisted wire cipher backed with red foil. They are in a silver setting.
