Half-length oil-on-canvas portrait of James Sully painted by his brother Robert M. Sully. Sitter is angled towards his right and gazes over his left shoulder. He has short, red hair and wears a black coat and waistcoat, a white shirt, and a high, black stock. Inscription on back at the time of a 1926 restoration read: "James Sully/ Painted By his Brother R.M. Sully/They were Grandma's Brother." See "relations."
