Colt M1849 Pocket Revolver. Blued octagonal barrel is 6"L. Brass pin front sight is on the top barrel flat, 1/4" from the muzzle. Rear sight is a "V" notch in the hammer lip. Case hardened frame is 2 5/8"L. There is a capping groove in the right recoil shield. Five-shot cylinder is blued, roll engraved with a scene depicting a stagecoach hold-up. Oval triggerguard and backstrap are silverplated brass. Navy type latch for the loading lever, held by a catch, 1/4" from the muzzle. One piece walnut grips are varnished to a high luster. Serial number 48683 stamped on all the major parts. Stamped on the top barrel flat, "ADDRESS SAML COLT/NEW YORK CITY" in two lines within brackets. Stamped on the left side of the frame, "COLTS/PATENT". "COLT'S PATENT" stamped on the cylinder over the serial number.
