Japanese type 99 Arisaka rifle, probably produced between 1939 and 1945. This rifle has a mark on the left side of the receiver that identifies it as being manufactured by the Kokura Arsenal. The mark follows the serial number, 8897. The top of the receiver has something written in Japanese. This is one of a collection of pieces brought from Japan to America after WWII by Joseph Andrew LaBauve, originally from Brusly, who was a marine sergeant in the Pacific.
