Spanish? Green Velvet Upholstered Chair
ca. 1790-1900?

Content Description:

Chair, Hall. Spanish Mission style chair or perhaps imported from a Central or South American source. Identical to Green velvet seat and back upholstery. Embroidered coat of arms sewn onto velvet on chair back. Elaborately carved coat of arms on crest rail. Wood parts stained brown. Probably handmade (parallel pit saw marks indicate this). Hand-stitched damask underside of upholstery. Wedged mortise and tendon joints. Has crudely cast brass finials. MFH Furniture Conservator, thinks this chair could have been made in Mexico, Central or South America or Cuba/Bahamas.
