Content Description:
Storer College opened in October 1867 as a school for all races and both sexes. Primarily a teachers' college, Storer taught generations of students its ethic of honest labor, religion, education, and property ownership. The college was an oasis for many African-Americans--a place that aided the struggle for equality and a place that built community. Storer College closed in 1955.
