Painting, Watercolor. Illustration in watercolors, using gouache method, that shows a scene from a tale collected by Zora Neale Hurston, entitled "Uncle Monday and Other Florida Tales". Uncle Monday was a voodoo doctor and bragged he was the best. Judy Bronson felt he was no better than she. While fishing, she slipped and slid into the river. Uncle Monday came along, standing on two alligators, but would not help her until she admitted he was better. Scene shows large lake, Uncle Monday standing on the two alligators and Judy Bronson in the water. He is wearing a sleeveless pink garment with crisscrossing sashes. An alligator head is slipped over his head with its hide going down his back. He is holding a walking stick in his right hand.
