Content Description: 

Chair, Side. Or Parlor Chair. Walnut and walnut veneers, in the Eastlake style. One of a suite of parlor furniture that includes .065, and Platform Rocker 82.040.066. Tall, sprung upholstered square seat, with padded chair back upholstered front and back, over the crest rail. Armchair .065 and Rocker .066 have padded and upholstered armrests. Front seat rail has shaped and incised apron. Stiles have incised borders and terminate in elaborate rosettes with large pendant machine-carved ornaments attached to outside of stiles. Lower back rail has depending decorative motif that echoes apron of seat rail. Trumpet or cup-turned front legs, each on metal casters( no longer present on this chair). Side chairs have quarter-circle seat-to-back braces, doweled or mortised into seat rails and back posts. All incised decoration is inpainted with shell-gold; original finish was a clear natural resin varnish, now darkened.
