I.R. Comb Company

Content Description:

These seaman's' combs are evidence of the enduring quality of hard rubber. They were undamaged after being underwater for more than a century! They carry the raised letters, "I.R. Comb Co, GOODYEAR'S Patent, May 6 1851." The reverse side carries, "U.S. NAVY." The combs came from the Quartermaster's storeroom and were not issued.
