Shoe, Man's. Walking Shoe. Pair of brown leather high-top shoes. A: Left shoe. B: Right shoe. Shoes have removable insoles. Worn by Lawton Chiles during his campaign for the U. S. Senate in 1970; Chiles was nicknamed "Walkin' Lawton." Each shoe has 4 pairs of eyelets & 3 pair of lace locks for shoelaces. Shoelaces of woven cotton, probably over an inner core. Back seam is covered by a strip of leather ending in a loop at the ankle, used to pull on the shoe. Printed on insole: WALKOOL/SHOE/AIR CONDITIONER.
