Postage Through the Years
The U.S. Postal Service has long saluted the history of invention and technology with stamps celebrating great achievements in the field. At top left, the first U.S. airmail stamp from 1918 pictures a Curtiss Jenny biplane. A 1929 issue, at top right, commemorates the fiftieth anniversary of Thomas Edison’s incandescent bulb. At bottom, an airmail issue salutes Charles Lindbergh’s triumphant 1927 transatlantic solo flight.
