S. L. A. Marshall
Brigadier General Samuel Lyman Atwood Marshall served in both world wars and was, at the time of the events related here, the Army’s chief historian in the European theater. For many years he has been chief editorial writer of the Detroit News. Among his books are two on the war in Korea, The River and the Gauntlet and Pork Chop Hill .
