  • Montgomery Bus Boycott

    Rosa Parks is arrested in Montgomery, Alabama for refusing to move to the back of a city bus for a white passenger. Parks' arrest sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott, organized by Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr., which compelled Montgomery to desegregate its bus system.

  • Ford installs first assembly line

    Inspired by Henry Ford, the Ford Motor Company starts its assembly line for the first time. The assembly line helped Ford cut Model T manufacturing time from 12 hours to 2.5 hours

  • House of Representatives takes control of election

    In accordance with the 12th Amendment, the House of Representatives intervenes to decide the winner of the 1824 Presidential Election. Andrew Jackson had won a plurality of the electoral college, but John Quincy Adams, William Crawford, and Henry Clay had won enough votes to deny Jackson a majority.
