Dixie's Land: Original Handwritten Composition

Creator:
Daniel Emmett
Ohio composer Daniel Emmett (1815–1904) wrote "Dixie's Land" as a "hooray" song for a minstrel show. He composed the song in New York City while thinking "I wish I was in Dixie." "Dixie" took the South by storm after its southern debut in New Orleans in 1861 in the play Pocahontas.
