Full portrait of Henry J. Becker who was the bugler for Company A of the Tenth New York Heavy Artillery. ID'd on the backside of photo. Excellent photo of a musician's shell jacket. Holding sword, bugle on table at his side. The Tenth New York Heavy Artillery served from December 31, 1862 through June of 1865. It spent all of 1863 and the first four months of 1864 in the defenses of Washington D.C. It was sent south to join the Army of the Potomac at the end of May 1864 and took part at the Battle of Cold Harbor, and then the Siege of Petersburg including the Mine Explosion. Also saw action at: Cedar Creek and the Assault of Petersburg. Mustered out at Petersburg on June 23, 1865. Bermuda Hundred Campaign, Army of the James.
