Union and Confederate forces engage each other at the Battle of Chantilly, fought just two days after the decisive Battle of Second Manassas. The Confederates, led by General Stonewall Jackson, tried to block the Union retreat to Washington D.C. The battle essentially neutralized the Union Army of Virginia and allowed the Confederates to push into Maryland.
