  • My Lai massacre trial begins

    The United States Army charges 14 officers, including 1st Lieutenant William Calley, with the murder of Vietnamese citizens during the My Lai Massacre in South Vietnam.

  • NRA formed

    The National Rifle Association (NRA), one of the largest special interest organizations in the United States, is formed by William Conant Church and George Wood Wingate in New York. Church and Wingate chose General Ambrose Burnside to serve as the first NRA president.

  • Washington Dulles Airport dedicated

    President John F. Kennedy dedicates Washington Dulles International Airport in northern Virginia. The airport, the busiest to serve the nation's capital, was named for John Foster Dulles, secretary of state under President Dwight Eisenhower.

  • Speaker Boehner born

    Current Speaker of the House of Representatives John Boehner is born in Reading, Ohio. Boehner is the highest ranking Republican in Congress and has represented Ohio's 8th District since 1991.
