2003.002.009 Document, Peace Council-- General G. A. Custer Two Page document from Fort A. Lincoln Dakota Territory from April 15, 1875. In this document George Custer proposes a Peace Council with the Sioux and the Cheyenne. Custer writes to the U.S Indian Agent Edmund Palmer at the Standing Rock Agency. Custer writes: "I write to inform you that the date of the assembly has been postponed until 20th of May. I hope this delay will enable all of the principle chiefs and head men of your agency (Sioux) to arrive at this point and to participate in the "Treaty of Peace", which it is hoped to be made between the Indians of Fort Berthold and the Standing Rock and the Cheyenne Agencies. Please submit this matter for the consideration of the Indians under your charge and inform me of their decision. Very truly Yours- G. A. Custer-Lieut. Colonel 7th Cavalry, Brevet General U.S. Army"
