  • Battle of Little Bighorn

    Lakota, Arapaho, and Cheyenne warriors defeat Lt. Colonel George A. Custer and the 7th Cavalry at the Battle of the Little Bighorn in southern Montana. Custer, killed in action along with 267 of his fellow soldiers, was both memorialized and criticized for his leadership before and during the battle.

  • Korean War begins

    The Korean War begins as communist North Korea crosses the 38th parallel and invades South Korea. In response to the communist invasion, approved by the Soviet Union, the United Nations condemned the invasion and authorized an American-led defense of the Korean Peninsula.
