In a forthcoming book John Malcolm Brinnin, a poet and professor of English at Boston University, surveys in lively and meticulous detail the history of passenger travel across the Atlantic. The Sway of the Grand Saloon , from which these two selections are taken, will be published later this month by Seymour Lawrence/Delacorte Press.
