The USS Conestoga, captained by Lt. S.L. Phelps, travels up the Cumberland and Tennessee Rivers to survey Forts Donelson and Henry. Using this intelligence, Union forces led by General Ulysses Grant and Flag Officer Andrew Foote captured both forts the following month.
