    American aviator Charles Lindbergh is born in Detroit, Michigan. The son of a U.S. Congressman from Minnesota, he became the first person to fly across the Atlantic Ocean aboard the Spirit of St. Louis in 1927.

    George Washington is unanimously elected President by the first Electoral College. Three years later, he would be unanimously reelected on the same day.

  • Rosa Parks born

    Civil Rights activist Rosa Parks is born Rosa McCauley in Tuskegee, Alabama. A member of the NAACP, Parks was arrested on December 1, 1955 after she refused to leave her seat for a white man. Her arrest spurred the Montgomery Bus Boycott, where thousands of African-Americans refused to ride the segregated buses in Montgomery, Alabama.
