  • Kentucky enters the Union

    The Commonwealth of Kentucky, nicknamed the Bluegrass State, becomes the 15th state to enter the Union.

  • Madison writes list of grievances to Congress

    President James Madison writes to Congress concerning specific grievances with Great Britain. While not asking for a declaration of war, Congress examined the claims and declared war against Great Britain later that month.

  • Tennessee enters the Union

    Tennessee, the Volunteer State, enters the Union as the 16th state. Tennessee became the first federal territory to join the Union after the Constitution was ratified.
